Gary and Marlene Sybouts of Yakima, Wash. will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary on May 7, 2015. Gary Sybouts and Marlene Nelson were married May 7th, 1960 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Yakima by the late Father Schoenberg. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and friends at a mass at St. Joseph’s in Yakima, Wash. on May 7, 2010, celebrated with Father John and Father William Shaw, cousins of Father Schoenberg. The couple has been blessed to renew their vows each year wherever they have been.Gary has lived his entire life in the Moxee, Wash. and Yakima, Wash. area. Gary, now retired, was self employed owning Lincoln Avenue Car Wash and Yakima Oil. The couple will celebrate their anniver-sary with a family gathering on Father’s Day. The couple has four children–Dora (Gary) Swart of Chehalis, Wash.; Garth (Angela) of Moxee, Wash.; Greg (Norma) of Yakima, Wash.; and Steve (Lori) of Yakima, Wash. They have nine grandchildren–Erin at the University of Texas; Kelsey and Alyssa at Washington State University; Shannon of Spokane, Wash.; Gregory at The Seattle Art Institute; Trent at Central Washington University; RuthAnn, Nicholas, and Katrina all in high school.

Tom and Cheri will celebrate their 30th anniversary on April 29, 2014. They were married at Englewood Christian Church, where Tom is a member. They still enjoy visiting on special Sunday services.
They both graduated from Eisenhower High School. Tom graduated in 1978. Cheri graduated in 1982 from Eisenhower as well as from Mr. Lee’s Beauty school. Tom worked for his dad, Durry Hartoon, in construction till 1998, building two homes for themselves.
Tom and Cheri still reside in the second house built from 1993 to present. It was built with Cheri in mind; a private beauty salon is attached and still in service. In 1998 the couple started a new business, First Priority Vending, also still in business.
In 2003 they became a foster (adopt) home for three wonderful children: Summer, 10; Weston, seven; and Dean, four. They’ve owned rental proper-ties for 25 years. Landlords! Just another hat to wear.
Real estate is their hobby, hammer and paint. They continue to advocate for their elders and children teaching them of God’s love and to always have respect for others. Cheri and the children attend W.V. Foursquare Church. God unites you as two become ONE! We pray for 30 more years of joy.

Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Eglin of Yakima, Wash. are delighted to announce the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Eglin, to Samuel Kollmar-Smoot, son of Kimberly Kollmar-Littlejohn of Grandview, Wash. Samuel is also the Son of Larry Smoot of Spokane, Wash. Amanda and Samuel both grew up in the Yakima Valley and were introduced at a close friend’s wedding in August of 2009. Amanda attended East Valley High School and went on to Graduate from WSU with a Bachelor’s of Nursing Degree. She currently works as a nurse for the State. Samuel graduated from Grandview High School. After graduating Sam went on to complete his five years of secondary education which included his sheet metal worker’s apprenticeship. He now works as a journeyman for his family-owned business, Kollmar Inc. in Grandview, Wash. On September 2, 2014, the blissful couple became engaged on the beach in Seaside, Ore. Their wedding is planned for July 25, 2015 in Zillah, Wash.

Christie and Garry Young, of Juneau, Alaska., would like to announce the engagement of their daughter, Nicole Erin Young, 25, to Michael Robert McInnis, 26, son of Gary McInnis (Judith) and Sandi Conrad (Rick). Nicole graduated from Yakima Valley Community College and Washington State University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Operations and currently works as a Dispatcher with the City of Yakima. Michael graduated from Selah High School, served in the US Army for three years and currently works as a Quality Assurance Lead for SunRype USA. A June wedding is planned for this year at River Ridge Golf Course in Selah, Wash.

In 1985 Lois Ballinger of Kalispell Mont. and DeLois Keightley of Lynnwood Wash., requested the presence of family and friends at the marriage of their son and daughter James Keightley and Brenda Ballinger. The wedding took place in Kalispell Mont. May 4, 1985. The couple moved several times in the state of Washington as James was promoted in the ranks of the State Patrol. In 2000 upon becoming Lieutenant he was assigned to the Yakima office. Since retirement he has been captain in the Ellensburg Police Department. The Keightleys have three children: Joshua and Alyssa of Yakima, Wash. and Jordan who is in the US Marines. The couple took a recent trip to Hawaii and have other trips planned this summer. Congratulations on the first 30 years, and here’s to another 30 years.

McKenzie and Michael both graduated from Eisenhower High School in Yakima, Wash. The future bride also graduated in March from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. The future groom graduated from Whitworth University in May, with bachelor’s degrees in both math and engineering physics. Michael will attend the University of Texas at Austin beginning this September, where he will serve as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Mechanical Engineering with a focus on biomedical applications. McKenzie will pursue a career in law enforcement in the area.The couple will be married in August at Fontaine Estates Winery, exactly one year to the day of their engagement. They will make their home in Austin, Texas.

Mitch graduated from Perry Technical Institute with an Electrical Technology Degree. He is employed at S. Martinez Livestock. A July wedding is planned.

On May 10, 2014 Geoff and Dorinda Peralta Baker will celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary. The celebrations began in late April on a nostalgic trip back to the Bay Area where they were married in 1964. Geoff proposed to Dori at a stop light at the corner of Potrero and 18th Street in San Francisco. Dinner at the Cliff House and a walk along the Santa Cruz Pier and Boardwalk commemorated this special moment. A 50th Anniversary Dinner is planned in Washington, DC in June followed by a September trip to France.
Geoff is a retired Air Force Colonel, and the Bakers moved to Yakima Valley from Hawaii in 1994. He also retired as Executive Director for Yakima’s Consumer Credit Counseling. Dori retired as Marketing Director of MPA Media, based in Huntington Beach, CA. The company specializes in Naturopathic Medicine. Geoff now serves on the Board for Generating Hope, Wags to Riches, Aspen Village and the Dispute Resolution Center. He is also a volunteer at North Star Oncology. Dori is currently the Treasurer and Scholarship Chair for the Mabuhay Foundation and is chair for the Asian Pacific Islander Coalition of Yakima County. She is also active in the Filipino American Community Youth and Senior Programs.
The Bakers are active community service volunteers and are members of Wesley United Methodist Church. Geoff and Dori have two grown daughters: Laura is Graphic Design Director for Education Week in Bethesda, MD, and Jonna is a Disney Channel Media Planner for Disney, Inc. in Burbank, CA.

Bill and Barbara (Duley) Richards of Selah, Washington, were married on May 10, 1969 at Crook’s Memorial United Methodist Church in Yorktown, Washington.
Bill retired from U.S. Navy as ETCS (SS) in 1977. During that time, he served in VP-1 out of Whidbey Island, on the USS Charles Adams, on two submarines: the USS Woodrow Wilson (7 1/2 years) and the USS Tecumseh. They have been living in the Yakima area since 1978.
In 2007 Bill retired from Perry Technical Institute, where he taught Instrumentation I for 22 years. Barbara was a Sign Language Interpreter for both Toppenish School District and Yakima School District until she retired in 2008. They are both members of the Woodrow Wilson Association and Bill is a member of the Yakima Submarine Veterans Association.
They have two children, Charlie Richards and Christina (Richards) Swindler of Yakima, and two grandchildren, Zadie and Kevin Swindler, all of Yakima. Bill and Barbara will be taking an anniversary trip in the near future.

On May 13, 2013, Pete and Lonni Jahr of Selah celebrated 35 years of marriage in front of their loved ones. As the sun was rising for a new day, they again said their wedding vows and affirmed their love for each other before God.
They were blessed to have their children and grandchildren present. They are Sunni and Forrest Tapscott, Summer and Jason Clark, along with grandchildren Tanner, Makenze, Makala and McKara Clark and Dale and Autumn Tapscott.
We want to thank all our loved ones for being with us and participating in this very special moment in our lives. We have been blessed!
Pete and Lonni have owned and operated Jahr’s European Sausage in Selah for the past 16 years. When they are not working or spending time with their loved ones they love to travel in the mountains and to the Oregon and California coasts.

Robert Wilson and Suzanne Tysver were married on June 4, 1965 at the Welsey Methodist Church. Mr. Wilson is a retired police chief for the city of Wapato. Mrs. Wilson is a retired licensed practical nurse. The couple has eight children: Donna Beck, Debra Delatorre, Leonard Upton, Candyce Wilson and Rob Wilson, all of Yakima, Wash., Joan Ledoux of Raymond, Wash., Tim Wilson of St. Paul, Minn., and Deborah Ellefson of West Richland, Wash. They also have 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Bob and Sue will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at a reception hosted by their children, who would like to invite their friends to come and celebrate with them: Saturday, June 6, 2015 at the Cross Church – Lovelace Hall, 8700 Summitview Ave. Yakima, Wash., from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The groom-to-be graduated from Northwest Culinary Institute. Both are currently employed at Yakama Nation Legends Casino in the Security and Food & Beverage Departments. The wedding will be Wednesday, June, 3, 2015 at noon. The ceremony will take place at the Wapato Longhouse with Harry Smiskin officiating. Reception to follow immediately after ceremony at Wapato Longhouse. The couple plan to honeymoon in Seoul, South Korea.

Jim and Myra McLain were married 60 years ago on June 4, 1955 in Stillwater, Okla. The following fall they both taught in tiny farm towns on the High Plains of Eastern Colorado. Jim then transferred to Fort Morgan, Colo. where he taught elementary school for the seven years. In 1964 Myra, Jim and their three children, Mark, Dana and Jo moved to Yakima, Wash. where Jim taught for the next 26 years in several Yakima elementary schools and Wilson Middle School, where he retired in 1990. Myra also retired the same year from Yakima Valley School after 13 years as a teacher’s aide.
The McLains are the parents of Mark, Dana (deceased) and Jo McLain, both of Yakima, Wash. They have one granddaughter, Ruby and husband Kyle Nauck, and great- granddaughter Kaira of Lacey, Wash.

Frank and Valdemira Apodaca of Yakima, Wash. will be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary June 12, 2015. Frank Michael Apodaca and Valdemira Medina Fernandes
were married June 12, 1965 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in the town of Lages Terceira Island, Azores, Portugal. The couple will celebrate with a trip to Las Vegas, Nev. and follow with a family and friend gathering in late June. Mr. Apodaca is a lifelong Yakima resident and is retired from Lucent Technologies. Mrs. Apodaca was born in Feteira Praia, Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, and is retired from the Yakima School District. The couple have three children, Steven (Sandy) Apodaca, Michele (David) Wiles, and Monica (Victor) Gutierrez. They have seven grandchildren, Hannah Wiles, Riker Thiel, Courtney Wiles, Nicholas Wiles, Paris Apodaca, Rebecca Gutierrez, and Nicholas Gutierrez.
